CONNEAUT A 15-year-old girl was burned on the
arm while fleeing a fire that damaged a Center Street duplex early Thursday
morning, firefighters said.
Michelle Miller was one of five people,
including four children, chased into the cold around 3 a.m., firefighters
said. All five were treated at UH-Conneaut Medical Center, according to
reports.
The occupant was identified as Tammy Ferrari,
292 Center St., firefighters said. Children at the address, in addition to
Miller, were Mary Moneypenny, 7; Jonathan Moneypenny, 7; and Sabrina Graff,
10, according to a fire report.
The occupants were running from the unit as fire
trucks arrived, firefighters said. Two crews, on duty because of the ice
storm, quickly extinguished the fire, according to reports. Personnel stayed
at the scene for nearly three hours.
The blaze reportedly began in a bedroom,
firefighters said. Cause of the fire has not been determined, but it is
believed to have been accidental in nature, firefighters said.
Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the building
and contents, firefighters said. Owner of the building is Greg Curtis of
Columbus, firefighters said.
